The programme is designed for candidates holding a Bachelor degree in Statistics or Mathematics or any related science. This program is designed to upgrade statistical skills and to educate students to undertake advanced statistical work focusing in marine science, and also the ability to communicate effectively with others. Our master’s degree covers a wide range of statistical theory and practice, and provides advanced training to practising statisticians or those aiming to become one. This programme is also designed to prepare students for further postgraduate research degrees in statistics, specializing in marine science data.

From this programme, you will experienced solving a real world problem in marine science. The classes are held in our main campus in Gong Badak, Kuala Nerus, which is located opposite to an open South China Sea, and promises a good surrounding for the learning activities. We are offering a flexible class session, either in weekdays (evening) or weekend. This programme is also suitable for Statistics and Mathematics graduates who have worked for a few years and need to upgrade their skills and knowledge. You’ll leave the course with a research project to feature in your CV. The research project will put your skills to the test, working with one of our expert research staff on real marine science data.
- Academic criteria as follows:
i. Bachelor’s Degree in Science (Statistics) with minimum CGPA of 2.75 from higher institutions that recognized by the UMT’s Senate; OR
ii. Bachelor’s Degree in Science (Computational Mathematics) or Bachelor’s Degree in Science (Financial Mathematics) with a minimum CGPA of 2.75 from UMT; OR
iii. Bachelor’s Degree in Science which equivalent to Parts (i) and (ii) with minimum CGPA of 2.75 from UMT or any other higher institutions recognized by the Senate; OR
iv. Candidate with Bachelor’s Degree in Science as in Parts (i), (ii) and (iii), that obtained minimum CGPA 2.50 also qualify if they possesses minimum five (5) years’ work experiences in the related field and recognized by the Senate.
- English Requirement
For international candidates, requirements for English Language is as follows:
i. TOEFL with minimum score 550; OR
ii. IELTS with minimum band 6.0.
- International students that obtained academic qualification from Malaysia public higher institution that recognized by Senate are excluded from English qualification.
